WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER

Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)

Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) connects students and professors in different countries for collaborative projects and discussions as part of their coursework. COIL collaborations between students and professors provide meaningful, significant opportunities for global experiences built into programs of study. COIL enhances intercultural student interaction through proven approaches to meaningful online engagement, while providing universities a cost-effective way to ensure that their students are globally engaged. The SUNY COIL Center pioneered the COIL model more than 15 years ago and has been helping professors and institutions realize the power of COIL ever since. Buffalo State is a member of the SUNY COIL network. If you are interested in implementing COIL components into your courses or designing a new COIL course, get connected to professional development opportunities and a network of potential partners abroad our office will assist you.  To find out about our active list of more than 150 professors from institutions abroad who are interested in collaborating with us, contact Director Joy Guarino.

Nancy and Michael Chicola International Professional Development Schools Consortium

Through support and donations through the Chicola family, Buffalo State Teacher Candidates have unique opportunities to experience classrooms and schools around the United States and the world. Our International Professional Development Schools (IPDS) consortium provides short-term, faculty-led programs that bring students into classrooms abroad. Each participant globalizes their understanding and experience of education by studying about and traveling to an international destination to interact with members of a partner university or organization and work side-by-side with teachers and schools.
