Coronavirus Response

In responding to the COVID-19 public health emergency, Buffalo State will:

  • Provide a safe and healthy environment for students, faculty and staff, offering support for the physical and emotional well-being of our community
  • Promote and encourage personal and community responsibility for following federal, state and local restrictions and guidelines
  • Remain grounded in our mission, vision, values, and strategic goals.
  • Maintain flexibility to adapt to a changing environment
  • Practice responsible financial stewardship and resource management

Buffalo State’s policies and protocols for responding to the COVID-19 pandemic are grounded in our concern for the safety for our students, faculty and staff, and the public. Our primary goals are to protect the public health; support our students, faculty and staff; and remain centered in our mission and strategic goals.

Our actions will be consistent with directives from Governor Cuomo and guidelines developed by the New York State Department of Health, the Erie County Department of Health and the State University of New York. As our understanding of the COVID-19 virus continues to evolve, guidance to faculty and staff may be updated or revised.

Will face masks be required?

As per the campus repopulation plan, all staff are required to wear face masks while in the shared areas of the office. Face masks must fully cover both mouth and nose. Staff will arrive to work wearing the mask and keep it on while in common areas of the building and office. The only exception is in a personal office in which the door to the common areas can be closed or a window can be opened to facilitate air flow.  Failure to comply with the face mask requirement will be considered a violation of campus and SUNY policies and a report will be filed with HR for repeat offenders.

Can I visit the office?

As per the campus repopulation plan, offices are reformatted and marked to facilitate proper social distancing. Please call 716-878-5331 to make an appointment. The office will take appointments for visitors from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM. Any person staying longer than 15 minutes will be required to leave their contact information in the office’s close contact log.
