Welcome to SUNY Buffalo State College’s Center for Global Engagement (CGE). CGE is home to the College’s Office of International Student and Scholar Services, Office of Study Away and International Education, Intensive English Language Institute, and Center for China Studies.
The mission of the SUNY Buffalo State Center for Global Engagement is to provide leadership for the comprehensive internationalization of the SUNY Buffalo State community by fostering the growth and development of our international programs and services. The pandemic and the response to systemic racial injustice requires that global pedagogy enter a new era of cultural humility and social responsibility. At Buffalo State we are on the forefront of applying a social justice perspective to support and cultivate global citizenship.
The Office of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) serves all international students studying at Buffalo State. ISSS provides a number of services for Buffalo State’s international students, including support with immigration compliance, advising, and assistance adjusting to Buffalo’s academic, social and cultural environment.

The Office of International Education fosters opportunities for international and cross-cultural experience through Study Abroad and National Student Exchange programs. Our office provides guidance to help students integrate study abroad into their academic plans. The mission of the Center for China Studies at Buffalo State is to promote and coordinate research, scholarly exchanges, academic programs, and economic development with China. Center activities will advance the intellectual, personal, and professional growth of students, faculty, staff, and the general community in Western New York by providing an international perspective regarding China in the context of an ever-changing and diverse world.
Buffalo State’s Sponsored International Programs office supports students, faculty, and staff in seeking funding, applying to, and participating in international research opportunities, mainly the Fulbright and the Rhodes Scholar programs.
